If you happened to hear a loud thud in the last week, chances are it was the sound of me falling off the wagon. With only 13 days left to go, raw eating is really starting to lose its luster, and fast. It is becoming time consuming and downright antisocial. I want yogurt, goat feta, cooked whole grains, homemade soups and eggs. I like these foods and, more importantly, I feel really good when I eat them. I suppose some people thrive on a raw diet, while others, not so much. I’ve simply decided that I really enjoy a healthy balance of both raw and cooked food. And after September 8, that is exactly how I plan to eat. For good.
In the meantime, here is a smoothie recipe to keep me satiated when mornings are rushed. It’s really yummy, and the cashews add a little kick of protein. This is also speedy to prepare, providing you remember to soak the nuts the night before.
Power Smoothie
(Serves 1)
2 T raw cashews, soaked overnight and rinsed
1 ripe banana, peeled and frozen
2 medjool dates, pitted
½ cup almond milk
½ cup fresh berries, washed
Place all ingredients in a blender and whirl until well combined. Serve immediately, in a tall glass.

You’re almost there. I always wonder what it’s like to eat pure raw food for the rest of your life. I realized that not all people are meant to eat that way. I haven’t tried going on a raw food diet. But your experience in trying this lifestyle would be an inspiration for me.
The cashews make it sound divine! But bananas, cashews, dates, almond milk- can’t be too low cal. Sounds kind of high calorie, yet satisfying and comfort food. I’m mother of a stressed out house of junk food junkies and though I tend to prefer healthier foods, & have a ton of food allergies w/lactose intolerance, making normal eating agonizing. It’s time to detox again and I simply wish I could go raw foodie but the income isn’t here. My new juicer makes me a happy woman, however. I’ll be a fresh foodie today for sure, with a raw breakfast before my walk. Blessings!
Divina- why not give it a shot? Judging by your photos, I think that you would have no problem making beautiful, tasty food.
Sue- Don’t sweat the calories! You are a busy mom, for gosh sakes. I drink that shake and have it all burned off 2 hours later. (I’ve lost 6 pounds since June 1, without trying). Don’t worry about calorie count- worry about the quality of nutrients within those calories. Good luck!
